The shapes of “shared”
Teams mean different things by a shared inbox, and they behave differently with add-ins:- A true shared mailbox — a Microsoft 365 shared mailbox opened alongside your own
- Delegated access — someone else’s mailbox you’ve been granted
- A licensed account everyone signs into — team@ used as a normal account
Worth considering: Tags as the shared view
Before standing up another shared mailbox, look at Tags. A lot of what shared inboxes exist for — “all maintenance in one place”, “who’s handling complaints” — Tags do inside each person’s own inbox: the same email can beMaintenance and Urgent at once, nobody forwards anything, and the thread history stays whole.
Shared mailbox for one front door, Tags for the sorting — that’s the pattern that scales.
