# Connecting Outlook
> Connect your Microsoft 365 inbox so Lanten can read context and draft replies — and see exactly what each permission is for.
Connecting Outlook lets Lanten read the email you're looking at, prepare drafts, and apply Tags. Everyone on your team connects their **own** inbox — this step is per person, unlike [Street](/setup/connect-street), which is connected once for the whole agency.
**Lanten never sends an email without your approval.** It prepares drafts; you approve and send, or edit and send. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and you can disconnect at any time.
## Connect it
During onboarding, click **Connect Outlook**. Already past onboarding? Go to [app.lanten.ai](https://app.lanten.ai) → **Integrations** → **Connect** next to Outlook.
Use the Microsoft 365 account whose inbox you work from.
Microsoft shows the exact list — explained below. You'll come straight back to Lanten once you're connected.
## What each permission is for
| Microsoft asks for | Why Lanten needs it |

| View users' basic profile | To sign you in and show your name in the dashboard |
| Maintain access to data you have given it access to | To stay connected so you don't re-consent every session |
| Read and write access to user mail | To read the email you have open for context and summaries, save reply drafts, and apply Tags to messages |
| Send mail as a user | To send a reply **after you've approved it** — never on its own |
| Read and write user mailbox settings | To create your Tags as Outlook categories, with their colours |
## If you see "Approval required"
Some organisations require an admin to approve new apps. If Microsoft shows an approval-required screen instead of Accept, forward [For IT administrators](/troubleshooting/it-admins) to whoever manages your Microsoft 365 — it has everything they need, including the option to consent on behalf of the whole organisation.
## Disconnecting and reconnecting
In [app.lanten.ai](https://app.lanten.ai) → **Integrations**, the Outlook card shows which mailbox is connected. **Disconnect** stops Lanten reading anything; reconnect any time with the same steps above.
